THE REASON CENTERPOINT CHURCH EXISTS
OUR PURPOSE is to equip you to make Christ the center of your life and world through . . .
- God-centered worship. God is the center of attention at this church.
- Grace. We all need the forgiveness Jesus Christ brings to us.
- God's Word. We want to help you understand the Bible from cover to cover.
- Groups. This is a place to build healthy relationships with other people.
- Gifts. We want to equip you to use your talents to serve other people.
- Giving. This is a church full of generous people.
- The Bible. The Bible is God's unique revelation to people. It is the inspired Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority on all matters upon which it teaches. No other writings are vested with such divine authority. Central to the message of the Bible is that God loves people, and invites them to live in communion with Himself. (References: 2 Timothy 3:16; John 17:17; 2 Peter 1:21)
- God. We believe that there is only one God. This God eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. All people are created in God's image and matter deeply to Him. (References: Matthew 3:16-17 & 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:16)
- Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and He lived a sinless life. He is both fully divine and fully human. He willingly took upon Himself all of our sins, died and rose again bodily, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father as our advocate and mediator. Jesus is coming again to establish His eternal kingdom. (References: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; John 1:14; Romans 8:3; 1 Timothy 2:5; 3:16; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18, 20; Luke 1:34-35; John 1:1, Philippians 2:6) . On the first Sunday of every month we take communion in our services as a symbol of what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross (I Corinthians 11:23-26).
- The Holy Spirit. Everyone receives 100% of the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation. As people live under the control of the Holy Spirit they will experience encouragement, guidance and empowerment to living a Christ-like life. The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts with which to serve people and to reach a lost and needy world. (Reference: John 14:16-18; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19; Romans 8:5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 1 Corinthians 12:11; 1 Corinthians 14:3-5, 12, 17, 26)
- Satan. Satan is real, but God is more powerful than Satan and has already defeated the power of Satan on the cross. Satan is the originator of evil in our world (References: Matthew 13:19, 39; Acts 5:3; 2 Corinthians 11:14; Hebrews 2:14-15; Genesis 3:1-7; Ephesians 6:10-12).
- Salvation. Apart from Jesus Christ all people are spiritually lost and, because of sin, deserve the judgment of God. However, God gives salvation and eternal life to anyone who trusts in Jesus Christ and in His sacrifice on his or her behalf. Salvation cannot be earned through personal goodness or human effort. It is a gift that must be received by humble repentance and faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross. Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. At the final judgment, unbelievers will be condemned to separation from God. Believers will be received into God's loving presence and rewarded for their faithfulness to Him in this life. (References: Romans 3:9, 10, 22, 23; Psalm 14; Isaiah 53:4; Romans 5:18; 2 Corinthians 5:19; 1 John 2:2; John 3:16; 1 Timothy 1:16; Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:11-15; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 8:31, 14:15; 1 John 2:3). We baptize those who have become Christians as a symbol of their identification with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism is also a symbol of being cleansed of our sin and guilt because of what Christ has done for us (Romans 6:1-7).
